The Customs Administration of the Republic of Slovenia is a body within the Ministry of Finance. Because of the number of officials and the services performed to implement the state fiscal policy the Administration is among the most important state authorities.
The independence of the Republic of Slovenia brought some necessary changes in organisation of the Customs service. However, both the customs system and the legislation of the former state were still in use at the time.
The Customs Administration of the Republic of Slovenia was established on June 25th, 1991 and has since developed into a modern Customs service with a clear development orientated vision - Development Strategy of the Customs Service by 2010 [PDF-163KB]. Today, the Customs Administration is responsible for administration and collection of customs duties, excise duties and VAT on imports.
The Customs Administration is managed by the Director General positioned at the General Customs Directorate [JPG-106KB]. At the Directorate there are nine divisions in charge of different customs areas. They control and support the operation of the entire service.
Ten Customs Directorates are established at regional level: in Celje, Dravograd, Jesenice, Koper, Ljubljana, Maribor, Murska Sobota, Nova Gorica, Sežana and Brežice [JPG-168KB]. Managed by Directors they are responsible for uniform implementation of the customs policy, laws, provisions, regulations and procedures under the authority of customs offices located on borders and inland. In total there are 50 organisational units.
