- General Customs Directorate
The Customs Administration of the Republic of Slovenia is a body within the Ministry of Finance. Because of the number of officials and the services implementing the state fiscal policy the Administration is among the most important state authorities.
The Customs Administration of the Republic of Slovenia was established on June 25th, 1991 and has since developed into a modern Customs service with a clear development orientated vision.
The Slovenian Customs service successfully protects legal economic flows in the customs territory of the European Union and protects life and health of the people by preventing illegal imports of products and substances. The service controls import and export of goods and the international supply chain, and maintains balance between security, protection and financial interests of Slovenia and the European Union on the one hand and enhanced competitiveness of the economy on the other.
Our tasks include:
- customs and excise control of goods and clearance of goods;
- levying, charging and collection of import duties, export duties and other taxes and excise duties;
- customs inspections;
- prevention and detection of customs and excise offences and other punishable acts;
- control of entry, exit and transit of goods for which special measures are regulatory due to interest of security, protection of health and life of people, animals and plants, and protection of environment, cultural heritage or intellectual property;
- control of declaration of domestic and foreign currency on entry and exit;
- collection of statistical data on the trade in goods between EU Member States;
- implementation of foreign-trade measures and common agricultural policy measures;
- implementation of EU customs law and international customs agreements.
We provide for expertly supported and efficient co-operation with companies and citizens in Slovenia and the European Union. We expedite and facilitate operations and cut costs for ourselves and for Slovenian businesses by raising the share of e-business, simplified procedures and introduction of state-of-the-art IT and work methods.
The Customs Administration is managed by the Director General positioned at the
General Customs Directorate (17 KB) . At the Directorate there are nine divisions in charge of different customs areas. They control and support the operation of the entire service.
Ten Customs Directorates are established at regional level: in Celje, Dravograd, Jesenice, Koper, Ljubljana, Maribor, Murska Sobota, Nova Gorica, Sežana and Brežice (34 KB).
Managed by Directors (30 KB) they are responsible for uniform implementation of the customs policy, laws, provisions, regulations and procedures under the authority of customs offices located on borders and inland. In total there are 27 customs offices.
