If you enter the EU from a non-EU country, goods having no commercial character in your personal luggage can be imported free of customs duties, VAT and excise duties within the following limits:

Tobacco products:

• 200 cigarettes, or
• 100 cigarillos, or
• 50 cigars, or
• 250 grams of tobacco.

Alcohol and alcoholic beverages:

• 1 litre of distilled beverages and spirits of an alcoholic strength by volume exceeding 22 % volume; non-denatured ethyl alcohol of 80 % volume and over, or
• 2 litres of distilled beverages and spirits, and aperitifs with a wine or alcoholic base, tafia, sake or similar beverages, of an alcoholic strength by volume not exceeding 22 % volume; sparkling wines, liqueur wines, or proportional assortment of these different products, and
• 2 litres of still wines.

Perfumes: 50 grams.

Toilet waters: 0,25 litre.

Medicinal products: the quantity required to meet travellers' personal needs.

Other goods: up to the value of 175 euros. This limit is reduced to 90 euros for travellers under 15 years. The value of personal effects which are imported temporarily or are re-imported following their temporary export is not be taken into consideration for determining this amount.

Travellers under 17 years old are not entitled to the exemptions for tobacco products and alcohol and alcoholic beverages.

Coffee and tea, as well as their extracts and essences: exempt from VAT on imports is limited to:

• 500 grams of coffee or 200 grams of coffee extracts and coffee essences (as of the age of 15),
• 100 grams of tea or 40 grams of tea extracts and tea essences (as of the age of 15).

Motor fuel: fuel contained in the tank of a vehicle used by a traveller is free of duties. When entering Slovenia, you may bring another 10 litres duty free in a jerry can.

Personal baggage: luggage carried by travellers themselves or luggage for which it can be proved it was handed as accompanying baggage to the same carrier at the time of departure.

Imports are regarded as having no commercial character if they take place occasionally and consist of goods for the personal or family use of the travellers, or of goods intended for presents.

The limits laid down above also apply if you come from the Canary Islands, the Channel Islands, Gibraltar or other territories where VAT and EU excise provisions do not apply.

However, importation of goods may be restricted or prohibited in accordance with specific Community and/or national legislation.
