On 8 March the customs officers at the Zavrč international border crossing were successful in their fight against cigarette smugglers. A truck owned by a Croat transport operator arrived at the crossing. The driver of the truck declared to the Customs 4.720 kg waste aluminium destined for an Austrian consignee. During detailed examination the customs officers detected paper boxes containing smuggled cigarettes. In total, there were 1.803.000 pieces or 9.015 packages of Memphis and Marlboro cigarettes; their market value would have been about € 220.000.
