»All these products could be sold in an hour,« Raniero Grando from Analysis and Control Unit of the Koper Customs Directorate commented the situation over a heap of T-shirts, sunglasses, cigarettes, perfumes and sports shoes – counterfeit products of well known trade marks, since the first question of most visitors of the counterfeit products exhibition, held from 8 to 10 July 2008 in Qlandia shopping centres in Maribor, Ptuj and Kranj, was what was for sale.
»Nothing is for sale. Counterfeit goods seized by the Slovenian Customs are displayed for public,« was the answer of Matjaž Podobnik and Damjan Rajčič, Raniero Grando’s fellow Customs officers. On the other side of the exhibition stand was then heard »Aja« or »Ahm« followed by numerous questions like »How do you know that the goods are fake?«, »How can I recognise fake products?«, »What do you do with such goods?«, »Cigarettes, Viagra and perfumes are also being faked?«, etc.
The Customs officer explained them everything and at the same time they warned the visitors to avoid purchase of fake products, since their quality is uncertain, they are poorly made, materials are cheap or even dangerous (counterfeit medicines, for example, may contain harmful substances).
The Customs Administration of the Republic of Slovenia in collaboration with Europe Direct from Maribor prepared the exhibition on the occasion of 40th Anniversary of the European Customs Union.
