General strike in the public sector

On 18 April 2012 a general strike in the public sector is announced in Slovenia. The Customs Trade Union of Slovenia is joining the strike starting at 6 a. m. The strike is conducted in line with the Customs Service Act. During the strike the authorized officers are obliged, according to the Article 56, to carry out the following tasks smoothly:

• customs control of goods, passengers and vehicles;
• granting of customs-approved treatments or use of goods, valuation and collection of customs duties;
• control of goods subject to special measures on import and export;
• control of the foreign means of payment in the international passenger and local border traffic;
• prevention and detection of customs offences and other criminal behaviours;
• prevention and detection of minor offences related to carrying domestic or foreign currencies in or out of the country;
• administrative procedures of first and second instance and minor offence proceedings of first instance.

Since customs procedures are more thorough during the strike possible delays especially at border crossings can be expected.
